Women's Field Hockey Defeats Syracuse
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.-Sophomore forward Julianne Marrone (Holden, Mass.) poked home a rebound just 2:45 into sudden death overtime to lift Boston College to a 1-0 BIG EAST Conference victory over 10th-ranked Syracuse in Alumni Stadium.
Marronne converted after junior Anne Marie Ambros (Bridgeton, N.J.) took a shot that Orangewomen goalkkeeper Sara Clapp (3 saves) deflected in front of the cage. It was the Eagles' third shot on goal in the extra session, but just the fourth of the entire contest.
The goal was Marrone's fifth of the season. The victory was the third overtime triumph (in three opportunities) for Boston College, now 6-4 and 2-1 in BIG EAST play. Syracuse drops to 8-3, 1-1 in the BIG EAST.
