CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College field hockey team keeps on rolling to start the 2009 season as the Eagles used a strong second half to defeat Monmouth 7-1 on a sunny afternoon at Newton Campus Field.

The win moves the Eagles to 6-0, which matches the program's best start to a season since 1998. The last BC field hockey team to start 6-0, or better, was the 1998 squad that started 6-0 before falling to Northeastern.

Sophomore Kate Gillis the BC scoring started in the eighth minute of action as she scored on a backhanded shot from an Emily Kozniuk pass to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

Gillis was not done as she put another ball in the back of the net just seven minutes later on a pass from Janna Anctil to give the Eagles a two-goal advantage.

Emily Kozniuk extended the BC lead, scoring her fourth goal of the season at the 12:57 mark.

Monmouth got right back in it on a goal from Ashley McPeek at the 4:37 mark to cut Boston College's lead to 3-1 going into the half.

BC outshot the Hawks 16-4 in the first half, and held the edge in penalty corners 7-2.

Anctil quickly got the momentum back on the Eagles' side with a goal just two and a half minutes into the second half to push the BC lead to 4-1.

Two goals by the red-hot Chelsey Feole, who has four goals in her last two games, and a goal by Courtney Tavener put the game out of reach.

The Eagles return to action on Saturday, September 19 in what is shaping up to be one of the biggest regular season games in the program's history. BC will welcome defending national champion, and number-one ranked, Maryland to Newton Campus Field. The game will start at 1 p.m.

Game Notes: With her five points in today's game Feole has now moved into fourth place on the Boston College career points list with 94 points passing Julie Obear (1991-94)...The Eagles have now outshot their opponents this season by a margin of 144-46.
