Hamden, Conn. - The 17th-ranked Boston College field hockey team recorded a 2-0 victory against Quinnipiac (2-1) to improve to 3-0 on the season. Freshman goalkeeper Leah Settipane tallied 10 saves on the way to her second shutout of her young career.
"I am happy with the team's will to win today," head coach Ainslee Lamb said. "We sustained a lot of pressure from a hard-working and motivated Quinnipiac team. We persevered and found a way to win a critical game in our schedule so far."
Both of BC's goals came in the first half. Junior Nicole Schuster put the Eagles up early, scoring 29 seconds into the contest for her first goal of the season. Sophomore Sarah Hospodar tallied an insurance goal with 52 seconds to go in the half, scoring off sophomore Katlyn Soucy's rebound.
While the Eagles outshot the Bobcats, 9-4, in the first half, QU came back in the second to tally 15 shots to BC's 13 total in the game. Quinnipiac also took nine corners to BC's seven. Settipane made seven saves in the second half.
The Eagles return to the Heights for their home opener on Sunday, Sept. 2 at 3 p.m. when they host Massachusetts at Newton Campus Field.
