Aug. 20, 2012
Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College field hockey team wrapped up a productive preseason, tallying one win and one tie in exhibition games. The Eagles defeated Colgate, 7-0, on Saturday at Newton Campus Field and tied Connecticut, 4-4, in Storrs on Sunday.
"This was a great start to our season," head coach Ainslee Lamb said. "We are excited for our early success, but these games also showed us what we can learn and improve on."
In the win over the Raiders, the BC newcomers came up big. Sophomore Katlyn Soucy, a transfer from Louisville, scored two goals while freshmen Kelcie Hromisin, Jordyn Hamilton and AshLeigh Serbia tallied one each. Senior captain Jacqui Moorfield and sophomore Emma Plasteras also recorded a score.
The game format included two 25-minute periods and one overtime period. The team finished with a shootout and stroke set to gear up for the season.
In Sunday's contest, the veterans recorded the goals in the knotted game. Juniors Paige Norris and Nicole Schuster and sophomores Abby Bascetta and Sarah Hospodar scored one apiece. The game also featured two 25-minute halves and a shootout.
"Paige Norris had a stand-out performance," Lamb said after the UConn game. "She played well, as did our entire defense. Leah Settipane, our freshman goalie, made a lot of critical saves and kept us in the game."
The Eagles open the regular season on Friday, Aug. 24 against Michigan State in Orono, Maine, and take on the Black Bears on Saturday.
