Andrew Griffiths has spent the past two seasons on the Eagles staff where he served as assistant coach in 2005 before becoming associate head coach in 2006. He is responsible for assisting head coach Ainslee Lamb with all aspects of the field hockey program at Boston College.
Since Griffiths arrived at Boston College, the Eagles have compiled a 27-13 overall record and reached the program's highest ranking ever in the NFHCA poll when they were ranked fourth on October 3, 2006. He has been a tremendous help in guiding Boston College in its move to the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2005.
Griffiths walked onto campus already familiar with the ACC as he came to the Heights by way of fellow conference foe Maryland, where he had been an assistant since 1998. Maryland was ranked in the top ten of every coaches poll for four consecutive seasons during his tenure.
Griffiths has been a field hockey coach for 16 years, participating with teams at the collegiate, international, elite, and developmental levels. While at Maryland, he also served as head coach of the Maryland/Virginia Elite Performance Training Center (2004-05), as assistant coach of the USA National Team (2003-04), and as head coach of the Tidewater Tempest in the US Field Hockey summer league.
He is currently an assistant coach with the U.S. Under-21 team that competed in the 2005 Junior World Cup held in Chile.
A decorated player in his own right, Griffiths competed for Team Canada for 12 years in 214 international competitions, including the 2000 Olympic Games, two World Cups, and three Pan-American Games.
A native of Canada, Griffiths received a bachelor of arts in English from the University of Western Ontario in 1994. He then received a bachelor of applied arts in journalism from Ryerson University in Toronto in 1998. He is author of a coaching book, instructional videos, and was co-founder of www.planetfieldhockey.com, one of the world's leading field hockey news websites. He also has extensive experience in graphic design for coaching and video editing. Griffiths and his wife, Tara, have a son Aidan.
