Boston College Field Hockey Duo Earn BIG EAST Weekly Accolades
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Senior forward Andrea Durko (Briarcliff, N.Y.) and junior back Anne Marie Ambros (Bridgeton, N.J.) earned Co-Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively.
It is the third time this season that two members of the Boston College field hockey team earned honors in the same from the BIG EAST Conference. On September 22 and October 8, two Boston College players were awarded Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
Boston College had a perfect week, defeating New Hampshire, 4-0, on October 29 and BIG EAST rival Rutgers, 4-1, two nights later. The Eagles' victory over Rutgers clinched a berth in the BIG EAST Championship, which will be held at BC's Alumni Stadium on November 8-9.
Boston College (13-6), the number-three seed, will play number-two Providence (11-9) at 1 p.m. on November 8. In the first game, top-seeded Connecticut (14-5) will meet Syracuse (13-7) at 11 a.m.
Durko scored three goals last week, including two in the victory over Rutgers. After 19 games this season, Durko leads the team and the BIG EAST with 29 points (12g, 5a). For her career, Durko now has 93 points (41g, 11a) in 78 games. It is the second time this season that Durko has earned BIG EAST weekly honors (Sept. 9).
Ambros earned Defensive Player of the Week honors for the third time this season. Ambros was also honored on September 22 and October 13. In addition to leading a defense that allowed just one goal in 140 minutes, she assisted on four goals to increase her team- and BIG EAST-leading total to 20, a single-season high. For her career, Ambros has 40 points (3g, 34a) in 56 games.
