BC Struggles In The Beanpot Fencing Tournament
Feb. 14, 2013
The Beanpot Fencing tournament at the Flynn Rec Plex proved to be a difficult night of competition for men's and women's fencing -- the only victory of the night was the women's team's first round win over MIT, 14-13, a match which saw senior standout Olivia Curry forced to withdraw due to injury. The loss of the sabrist was evident in the next round where the BC women fell to Brandeis 12-15. Meanwhile, the men dropped matches against MIT and Brandeis by the thinnest of margins, 13-14.
Harvard (#7 men, #8 women)continued its domination of the event, winning all its matches by double digits.
Four eagles posted records of 6-3, Linda Zhang (women's foil), Olivia Adragna (women's epee), and Hanmin Lee and Pat Riley (men's foil). Nikhil Patel was 5-4 in men's epee. Despite the disappointing results overall, there were several outstanding moments: the men's epee squad battled back to go 3-0 in their final round against Harvard, Linda Zhang fought back at 4-4 to win her bout against Harvard's 2012 NCAA qualifier Kathy Chou, and men's foil posted a perfect 9-0 record against MIT.
