Women's Basketball Signs Three Players For 2014 Class

The Boston College women's basketball team received three national letters of intent from recruits for the 2014 class, announced head coach Erik Johnson. BC is excited to welcome guards Ashley Kelsick from Palmdale, Calif., Rachel Gartner from Danbury, Conn., and center Katie Quandt from Lakeville, Minn., to the program next season.
"This is an exciting class that not only fills major needs for our roster, but also brings three dynamic women of high character that Eagle fans will be proud to watch represent BC for the next four years,'' said BC Head Coach Erik Johnson.
Rachel Gartner - 5-8 -- Guard - Danbury High School - Danbury, Conn.
Plays at Danbury High School for Jackie DiNardo ... Averaged 12.8 points, 4.0 assists and 3.4 steals a game as a junior ... Named FCIAC First Team ... Helped Danbury win the FCIAC Championship as a sophomore and junior and was the tournament MVP both years ... Holiday Hoop Tip-Off Classic MVP as a junior ... Averaged 11.8 points, 3.5 assists and 4.5 steals a game as a sophomore ... Helped Danbury win the FCIAC Championship and earned the MVP of the tournament as a sophomore ... Holiday Hoop Tip-Off Classic All-Tournament team as a sophomore ... Has compiled 814 points, 2334 rebounds 279 assists and 267 steals in her career ... Plays for the Connecticut Fillies which won the 2012 State Title and placed second in 2013.
"Rachel Gartner is one of the best passers in the nation who also has deep three point range and a hard-nosed defensive mentality. Her leadership and competitiveness will make her a valued floor general,'' said Johnson.
Ashley Kelsick - 5-7 - Guard - Highland High School - Palmdale, Calif.
Plays for John Taylor at Highland High School ... Golden League MVP as a junior ... Helped Highland win the Golden League Championship in 2012-13 with a 14-0 record ... All-Valley Player of the Year ... Averaged 40.7 points, 10.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists a game ... Led the Nation in scoring by averaging 40.7 points per game ... Has scored 1,467 career points ... Scored 54 points in two games as a junior, had 48 in the season opener in 2012-13 ... Team captain as a sophomore and junior ... Named the Top Defender in the 2010 and 2011 seasons ... Academic Honor Roll every semester since 2010.
"Ashley Kelsick is a physical, versatile guard who is a gifted scorer and also sets up teammates for scores at a high rate as well,'' said Johnson. "Her dogged desire to improve and compete with the best makes her a perfect match for BC and the ACC.''
Katie Quandt - 6-4 - Center - Lakeville South High School - Lakeville, Minn.
Plays for Angie Iverson-Ohstad at Lakeville South High School ... Averaged 11.5 points as Lakeville went 17-10 overall in her junior year ... Has scored 567 career points, grabbed 357 rebounds and set a school record for most career blocks with 139 ... South Suburban All-Conference as a sophomore and junior ... South Suburban Academic Interscholastic Award as a freshman, sophomore and junior ... She plays with the Minnesota Fury Storm.
