GREENSBORO, N.C. - Duke was named the Atlantic Coast Conference women's basketball preseason favorite in both a vote of the league's 47-member Blue Ribbon Panel, the league announced on Tuesday morning. Boston College was chosen to finish 12th.
The Blue Devils, who return four starters from last season's team that finished 27-6 and reached the Elite Eight of the 2012 NCAA Championship, received 29 first-place votes while defending conference champion Maryland earned the second spot and 18 first-place votes.
Georgia Tech was picked third, followed by Virginia, North Carolina and Miami. Florida State was voted seventh, followed by NC State, Wake Forest, Clemson, Virginia Tech and BC.
Reigning ACC Player of the Year Alyssa Thomas of Maryland was predicted to be a repeat winner in 2012-13 in the Blue Ribbon Panel vote.
The Eagles begin their season on Nov.9 with a matchup against crosstown-rival Boston University.
