Chestnut Hill, MA -
Boston College women's basketball Head Coach Erik Johnson announced this afternoon that Karima Gabriel has transferred to the Heights.
"We are thrilled that Karima has decided to attend Boston College," said Johnson. "Karima gives us much needed rebounding presence and adds speed and athleticism to our post game."
Gabriel, a native of Manchester, New Hampshire, arrives at BC after playing one season at DePaul.
Due to NCAA transfer rules, Gabriel will be able to practice with the team in 2012-13, but will not be allowed to play in any games. She will have three seasons of eligibility remaining beginning in September 2013.
Gabriel, a 6-foot-2 forward, played in 18 games at DePaul. She averaged just 4.2 minutes a game and 1.1 rebounds. Prior to playing at DePaul, Gabriel played for two seasons at the Peddie School in New Jersey. She averaged 16.8 points a game as a senior and was named the Most Outstanding Player. Gabriel helped the Peddie School to the NJISAA Prep State Title in 2010 and 2011.
