BC Women's To Play Virginia In ACC Tournament

Chestnut Hill, MA - The pairings are set for the 2012 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Basketball Tournament, which gets under way Thursday at the Greensboro Coliseum. The Boston College (7-22, 2-14) women's basketball team will play No. 6 Virginia (21-9, 9-7) on Thursday, March 1 at 8 p.m.

The regular-season champion Duke (24-4 overall, 15-1 ACC) is seeded first in tournament field and will be seeking its third straight ACC title. Miami (25-4, 14-2) is seeded No. 2, followed by No. 3 Maryland (25-4, 12-4) and No. 4 Georgia Tech (22-7, 12-4). Each of the top four seeds earned first-round byes and will open play in quarterfinal round on Friday. Duke entered this weekend ranked seventh nationally, while Miami was ranked fifth, Maryland sixth and Georgia Tech 17th.

The first round of the 35th Annual ACC Women's Basketball Tournament is set to tip-off at approximately 11 a.m. ET on Thursday, March 1, and will conclude with a 2 p.m. championship contest on Sunday, March 4. The title game will be shown nationally by ESPN2, while Saturday's 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. semifinal games will be broadcast by ESPNU. The Thursday first-round and Friday quarterfinal games will be televised at 11 a.m., 3 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on the league's regional sports package (RSN).

Thursday's first-round matchups feature fifth-seeded North Carolina (19-10, 9-7) vs. No. 12 Clemson (6-21, 2-14) at 11 a.m. No. 8 Florida State (14-16, 6-10) faces No. 9 NC State (16-14, 5-11) at 3 p.m. The 6 p.m. matchup finds No. 7 Wake Forest (17-12, 7-9) facing No. 10 Virginia Tech (7-22, 3-13). No. 6 Virginia (21-9, 9-7) faces No. 11 Boston College (7-22, 2-14) at 8 p.m.

Boston College and Virginia have met nine times with the Cavaliers leading the head-to-head series, 8-1. BC lost to the Cavaliers, 69-58, on Jan. 21 in Virginia. Shayra Brown led BC with 25 points and six rebounds.
