Boston College Falls to No. 3 UConn

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Nykesha Sales and Svetlana Abrosimova each scored 19 points Sunday to lead No. 3 Connecticut to an 86-53 victory over Boston College.

Connecticut (19-1, 9-0 Big East) used some crushing perimeter defense to take away the Eagles' most effective weapon, the 3-pointer.

Entering the game, Boston College (12-6, 7-3) led the nation in 3-point shooting at 45.4 percent. The Huskies held the Eagles to 20 percent from beyond the arc (4-of-20) and 32.8 percent overall, 15 percent lower than their season average.

Connecticut held the Eagles scoreless from the field for the first five minutes, while forcing four turnovers.

The Huskies took control of the game halfway through the first half when Abrosimova scored eight straight points in a 2 1/2-minute span to give UConn a 23-12 lead.

Connecticut's Paige Sauer, who scored 13 points, fell with 7:30 left in the game and didn't return. Kelly Schumacher had 12 points in the 13 minutes for the Huskies.

Alissa Murphy, who had the Eagles' first three field goals, and Whitney Steele each had 12 points.
