Boston College Falls to No. 3 UConn
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Nykesha Sales and Svetlana Abrosimova each scored 19
points Sunday to lead No. 3 Connecticut to an 86-53 victory over Boston
College.
Connecticut (19-1, 9-0 Big East) used some crushing perimeter defense to
take away the Eagles' most effective weapon, the 3-pointer.
Entering the game, Boston College (12-6, 7-3) led the nation in 3-point
shooting at 45.4 percent. The Huskies held the Eagles to 20 percent from beyond
the arc (4-of-20) and 32.8 percent overall, 15 percent lower than their season
average.
Connecticut held the Eagles scoreless from the field for the first five
minutes, while forcing four turnovers.
The Huskies took control of the game halfway through the first half when
Abrosimova scored eight straight points in a 2 1/2-minute span to give UConn a
23-12 lead.
Connecticut's Paige Sauer, who scored 13 points, fell with 7:30 left in the
game and didn't return. Kelly Schumacher had 12 points in the 13 minutes for
the Huskies.
Alissa Murphy, who had the Eagles' first three field goals, and Whitney
Steele each had 12 points.
