Boston College Wins by a Score of 75-64 Over Pittsburgh
CHESTNUT HILL, MA. -- Boston College won its third consecutive game, defeating the University of Pittsburgh, 75-64, at Conte Forum tonight. Three players scored in double figures for the Eagles, led by Whitney Steele's 23 points. The junior center also led Boston College in rebounding with seven. Sophomore guard Cal Bouchard netted 20 points, including three three-point field goals, and senior Kim Beezer added 11 points and six rebounds.
With the score tied 12-12, Pittsburgh went on a 12-4 run and had an eight-point advantage with 6:33 left in the first half. Boston College rallied on two layups by Steele, a three-point field goal by Alissa Murphy, and a layup by Beezer and regained the lead with 4:09 remaining. The Eagles led Pittsburgh, 31-28, at the half.
Pittsburgh tied the game at 47-47, but the Eagles pulled away and had a 14 point lead, its largest lead of the night, with 3:27 remaining in regulation. Boston College outrebounded Pittsburgh, 30-26, and shot 53.1 percent from the field. Kenosha Chastang led Pittsburgh with 21 points. LaTonya Blanton scored 11 points, and Gina Montesano added 10.
Boston College improved to 12-5 overall and 7-2 in the BIG EAST Conference, and Pittsburgh dropped to 4-12 overall and 1-8 in the league. The Eagles' next game will be at the University of Connecticut on Sunday, January 25, at 2:00 p.m. in the Hartford Civic Center.
