Eagles Lose in Final Seconds in Classic Championship Game

ATLANTA, GA - In the championship game against host Georgia Tech, the Yellow Jackets rallied from a 21-point deficit to defeat Boston College, 81-79. Georgia Tech's Shelli Novotny scored the winning basket with 1.3 seconds remaining in the game.

Cal Bouchard led all scorers with 27 points and handed out seven assists. Whitney Steele netted 20 points and pulled down six rebounds and Alissa Murphy added 17 points for the Eagles.

Boston College led Georgia Tech, 44-36, at halftime, but the Yellow Jackets went on a 20-6 run and tied the game at 64-64 with 7:33 remaining. The Eagles led 74-69 with 3:28 left in the game, but Georgia Tech's Carla Munnion scored five points and gave the Yellow Jackets a 75-74 lead with 2:44 remaining.

With the score tied at 79-79, Novotny scored the winning basket with 1.3 seconds remaining.

All-Tournament Honors

Cal Bouchard and Whitney Steele were both named to the Comfort Inn Downtown Classic All-Tournament team.

Bouchard scored 27 points and handed out seven assists in the loss to Georgia Tech in the championship game. The sophomore guard registered 11 points in the win over Towson.

Steele led the Eagles in scoring against Towson with 24 points, connecting on 11 of 16 attempts from the field. The junior center scored 20 points and grabbed six rebounds in the 81-79 loss to Georgia Tech.
