Women's Basketball Cruises Past UNC-W, 75-54

Cancun, Mexico - The Boston College women's basketball team cruised to a 75-54 victory over UNC-Wilmington (1-5) in the first game of the Cancun Challenge in Mexico on Thursday afternoon. BC is now 3-2 on the season and will play Iowa on Friday at 6 p.m. (ET).
BC was led by Kristen Doherty with 13 points, while junior Kate Cooper finished with a career-high 12 points and freshman Kelly Hughes added 11 points and eight rebounds. Katie Zenevitch finished with six points, seven boards and three assists.
Boston College went up 6-2 to start the game on three layups by Doherty, Zenevitch and Cooper. The Eagles pulled away midway through the half on a 14-4 run sparked by two three's by Hughes and four points from Doherty. Nicole Boudreau (eight points, three assists) ended the half on a three from the corner and BC held a 44-19 lead going into the locker room.
The Eagles shot 62.1 percent from the floor, while holding UNCW to just 23.1 percent. BC also went 5-for-9 from long range in the half.
The second half Boston College continued to push the action, Doherty scored four straight points and BC went up 51-24 at 15:37. With a solid lead, Coach Erik Johnson was able to play different combinations. Freshman Emilee Daley scored all nine of her points in the second half to keep Boston College in the lead.
BC shot 56.4 percent from the floor in the game while winning the battle of the boards, 46-32. The Eagles also had 18 assists.
