Women's Basketball Defeats NC State, 81-69

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Senior Kerri Shields led all scorers with a season-high 20 points to lead Boston College past NC State, 81-69, in Conte Forum on Thursday night.
After relinquishing a 44-31 halftime lead, the Eagles (9-11, 3-6 ACC) regained control of the game from the Wolfpack (10-12, 2-8 ACC) with a 17-0 run in the second half to go from a 58-56 deficit to a 73-68 lead with 2:40 left.
Shields shot 7-of-13 from the floor making 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. Juniors Tessah Holt and Kristen Doherty each scored 16 points while classmate Katie Zenevitch totaled 10 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Freshman Nicole Boudreau netted 10 points.
The Eagles opened the game with a 9-3 lead almost five minutes into the contest and built up an 18-7 edge at the 11:33 mark. The Wolfpack trimmed BC's lead to 18-13 before the Eagles went on a 10-3 run to claim a 28-16 advantage with just under seven minutes left in the half. Five different Eagles scored during the run.
With BC maintaining a 31-26 edge, the Eagles then scored 11 unanswered points to gain a 42-26 lead with 1:12 remaining in the opening half. During that stretch Shields connected on two 3-pointers while Boudreau hit a three of her own, and Zenevitch made two free throws. The Eagles carried a 44-31 lead into the break.
The Wolfpack opened the second half with nine straight points. That spurt triggered a 19-5 run which gave NC State its first lead, 50-49, with 11:13 remaining in the game. Consecutive layups from Shields and Doherty stemmed the run.
After NC State took back a 58-56 lead, the Eagles rattled off a 17-0 run to gain a 73-58 edge with 2:40 left, recapturing the lead for good. Holt started the run with a layup and two free throws to give the Eagles a 60-58 edge. Boudreau scored five points during the run including a 3-pointer while Shields contributed four points, and Zenevitch and Doherty each had two.
