Boston College's Bouchard Named Big East Player of the Week
Boston College's Cal Bouchard (Aurora, Ontario) was named BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week after leading the Eagles to victories over Rutgers and Notre Dame last week. Bouchard averaged 23.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists in the two conference games. In the 74-65 win over Rutgers on January 14, the sophomore guard netted 28 points, including six three pointers, and led the team with six rebounds. She led the Eagles to a 78-76 victory over Notre Dame on January 17, scoring a driving layup with five seconds remaining in the game. Bouchard finished the game with 19 points and six assists. In two games, she shot 61.5 percent (16-26) from the field.
This week's honor marks the second time that Bouchard has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week this season. Bouchard was named BIG EAST Co-Player of the Week with Nykesha Sales of the University of Connecticut on November 24, after averaging 21.5 points in wins over Marist and No. 25 Texas. She is currently leading Boston College in scoring with 17.0 points per game. Earlier this season, Bouchard was named to the All-Tournament teams at the Comfort Inn Downtown Classic and Corestates Hawk Classic.
A pre-season All-BIG EAST Second Team selection, she earned league Rookie of the Week honors three times during the 1996-97 season. Bouchard was a unanimous selection to the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team a year ago. The sophomore guard led the Eagles in scoring in eight games and was second the team with an average of 12.0 points per game.
