Angie Graham and Brian Shafer Lead Boston College at BIG EAST Cross Country Championships

All-American Angie Graham (Pickering, Ontario) capped a stellar BIG EAST career with a second-place finish today at the leagues championship race at Franklin Park in Boston. Senior Brian Shafer (Litchfield, Conn.) completed his league career with a 15th-place finish in the championship race.
Graham in fourth place with a half-mile to go when she surged past the next two competitors, sprinting into second with fifteen meters left in the race. All-American Shannon Smith (Fairport. NY) followed Graham in 24th-place. Freshmen Meghan Cunniff (Monomouth Beach, NJ) and Katie Ryan (Elmira, NY) finished 30th and 31st overall. The womens team finished in fourth-place three nationally ranked teams: Villanova, Georgetown, and Providence.
Shafer led the mens team to a seventh place finish, and was followed by junior Marshal Armitage (Burlington, Ontario) in 34th-place. Boston Colleges final three scoring runners Derek Smith (Duxbury, MA), Joe OConner (Langhorn, Penn.), and Chris Merrill (Windsor, Conn.) placed 28th, 49th, and 51st.
Both the men and women teams will spend the next two weeks preparing for the NCAA District 1 Qualifier at Van Cortland Park in Bronx, NY. A top three finish there will automatically qualify the team for the National Championships in Lawrence, Kansas on November 23.
