Pair Of Eagles Make The All-ACC Men's Tennis Academic Team

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Two members of the Boston College men's tennis team were recently named to the 2009 All-ACC Men's Tennis Academic Team.

Sophomore Brian Locklear, and 2009 ITA Northeast Region Freshman of the Year Akash Muppidi, were the two Eagles who received the honor. Both players are first time honorees.

Locklear had a solid year for the Eagles playing mostly at the No. 6 position last season. Muppidi posted a 20-12 overall singles record and 16-13 overall doubles record in 2008-09. Muppidi was 15-10 in dual matches in the spring season playing mainly in the No. 2 position where he posted a 10-9 record including wins in four ACC matches this season.

Two other notable honorees on this year's academic team were seniors Dominic Inglot from the University of Virginia, and Kiril Dimitrov from Duke University. Inglot was the ACC Men's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while Dimitrov was a four-time academic team honoree.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.
