BOSTON, Mass. - The men's and women's team competed in the Terrier Invitational at Boston University this past weekend. The women took fourth overall with a score of 781 while the men finished third with a score of 1007. Massachusetts won the meet on the men's side with a score of 1022.5 and the Yale women finished first with a score of 922.
Senior James Boretti, junior Sean Murphy and sophomores Joe Costa, Nick Henze, and Andrew Stranick were named Outstanding Performers of the meet for the men's team. Boretti took first in the 200 yard backstroke setting a BC record with a time of 1:50.79, won the 200 yard IM (1:51.06) and the 400 yard IM (3:58.07), and finished second in the 800 yard freestyle relay (6:51.22).
Stranick (55.71) and Murphy (56.60) both broke the BC record in the 100 yard breaststroke. Stranick also set a BC record in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:03.44. Costa set a BC record in the 200 yard butterfly (1:51.27) and took second in the 100 yard butterfly (50.29).
Freshman Dan Kelly had the Outstanding Performance of the meet in the 50 yard freestyle, winning the race and setting a BC record with a time of 20.85.
On the women's side senior Megan Hennessey and freshman Samantha Couillard were named Outstanding Performers of the meet. Hennessey took fourth in the 100 yard backstroke (57.89) and the 200 yard backstroke (2:06.78) while Couillard finished third in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:06.50) and fourth in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:24.22).
Freshman Maureen Barron
, sophomore Melissa Merwin
and senior Kathleen Murray
had the Outstanding Performances of the meets. Barron took third in the 50 yard freestyle (23.78), Merwin finished third in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:23.11) and Murray took fifth in the 200 yard butterfly (2:06.69).
The Eagles will return to action December 1 at Fordham.
