The Boston College swimming and diving program earned split results at Marist on Saturday, Jan. 21. The BC men's team earned a decisive victory, defeating Marist, 173-126, while the BC women's squad fell to the Red Foxes by a score of 173-122.
The BC men earned 11 first-place finishes in the outing. Colin Thilo and James Boretti led the Eagles with two individual victories apiece. Thilo won the 50-Yard Freestyle (22.43), as well as the 100-Yard Free (48.54), while Boretti was dominate in the distance races yet again, placing first in both the 500- (4:48.86) and 1,000-Yard (9:52.72) Freestyle events. Nick Henze finished first in the 200-Yard Freestyle (1:46.06) and Sean Murphy won the 200-Yard Breaststroke (2:12.27). Other individual victors for the Eagles included Connor Stickney (100-Yard Backstroke, 53.69), Michael Stephens (100-Yard Breaststroke (1:01.73) and Marty Long (One-Meter Dive, 256.72). Lastly, the BC `A' relay team took first in both the 200-Yard Medley Relay (1:37.35) and the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay (3:14.36).
In the women's competition, BC fought hard, but came away with just one individual winner on the day. Stephanie Ng continued her successful season with a win in the 200-Yard Individual Medley (2:15.31). BC's only other first-place finish of the meet came in the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay thanks to the BC `A' relay squad, made up of Shannon Landers, Lauren Nightingale, Kathryn Raplee and Patty Kautz. The Eagles picked up nine second-place finishes against Marist, including two by Landers (100-Yard Breaststroke, 1:09.06; 200-Yard Breaststroke, 2:30.03). Raplee (200-Yard Free, 2:00.47), Kautz (100-Yard Free, 56.03), Kimberly Rich (50-Yard Free, 25.66), Mary Fothergill (100-Yard Fly, 1:01.27) and Melissa Merwin (200-Yard IM, 2:18.81) each picked up one second-place finish apiece.
The Eagles return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 24 when BC hosts Tufts at 1 p.m.
