As A Junior (2013-2014):Joe had his most impressive performance of the season against Maine...Costa took first in the 200 freestyle relay while taking second in both the 100 yard butterfly and 50 yard freestyle...Against Williams, Joe took first in the 200 yard butterfly and second in the 100 yard butterfly... Costa rounded out the season with a second place finish in the 200 meter butterfly event against Providence.

As A Sophomore (2012-2013): Joe moved towards the 100 and 200 Butterfly. In his first meet swimming it at the New England Catholic Invitational, he placed 2nd. He went on to winning the 100 fly at Keene State, Tufts, and Fairfield and placed 2nd in the 100 and 200 at Williams. At the Terrier Invitational, Joe placed 2nd in both the 100 and 200 fly while breaking a BC record in the 200 fly with a time of 1:51.27, more than a second faster than the previous record set in 2003. He went on to hold the 2012-2013 dual meet record in both the 100 and 200 fly. When it came time for ACC's, Joe was determined to break more records. He set a personal record in the 100 fly and went under the 50 second barrier going a 49.97. Joe was also a part of the 400 medley relay, swimming the fly leg in a 49.33 and breaking the BC relay record by only tenths of a second, one of the most competitive records at the school.

As A Freshman (2011-2012): Joe swam the 100, 200, and 500 Freestyle. He was a championship finalist in the 500 freestyle at the Terrier Invitational. He placed 1st in the 100 Freestyle at the Bryant meet and proceeded to excel all the way to the ACC Championships in Blacksburg Virginia. He was the Eagle's Top Performer in the 500 freestyle and apart of the 800 Free relay that placed 8th.

BEFORE BC: Attended San Marino High School..Lettered three years... Team captain in 2011... CIF Finalist in the 200 and 100 freestyle...League record in the 200 medley relay...Awarded MVP in 2011... Placed first at sectionals in 400 medley relay for club team out touching Jason Lezak.... Scholastic All-American 2010-2011.

PERSONAL: Joe is from Eagle Rock, California.... he is the son of Mike and Karen Costa... He has one sister, Carmen (15) who plays volleyball... Joe swims for his club team, Swim Pasadena
