Boston College Men's Swimming Places First at Terrier Invitational
As A Sophomore (2013-2014):Kelly was instrumental to the success of the Eagles this season...In all, Dan took first place in thirty events...Kelly took four first place finishes in one meet three times this season at the Terrier Invitational, against Williams, and against Tufts...Arguably Kelly's best event was the 50 yd freestyle event, where he took first place thirteen times...In fact, Kelly placed first in every 50 freestyle event in which he swam except one, which came at the ACC Championships, where he placed twelfth with a time of 19.90...Kelly set or contributed to seven Boston College swimming records and five Flynn Athletic Complex records as well...Kelly was named Outstanding Performer of the Meet four times throughout the season.
AS A FRESHMAN (2012-2013): Dan broke the Boston College 50 yard freestyle record at the Terrier Invitational with a time of 20.85 seconds... He also broke the relay split record in the 200 yard freestyle relay at the same meet (20.06 seconds)... In addition, he set a dual meet best in the 50 yard freestyle during the New England Catholic Invite (21.46)... Dan and his teammates Connor Stickney '13, Nick Henze '15, and Eddie Timmerman '13 set an all time dual meet best in the 200 yard freestyle relay against the University of Maine (1:26.14)... Dan earned the outstanding performance of the meet in the 50 yard freestyle against Keene State (21.46), and at the Terrier Invitational (20.85)... His 200 medley relay of Connor Stickney '13, Andrew Stranick '15, and Tim Benage '15 also earned an outstanding performance of the meet against Fordham (1:35.69).
BEFORE BC: Attended Fenwick High School in Oak Park, Illinois... Received a varsity letter his sophomore through senior years... Team Captain senior year... 2012 Catholic League swimmer of the year... Earned 14th place in the 50 yard freestyle at the state finals in 2012... In addition to swimming, Dan played water polo in high school. He was on varsity his sophomore through senior years. He was a member of the 2010 state championship team, a starter on the 2011 state championship team, and a captain and starter of the 2012 Catholic League championship team that went 31-2 for the season... He made the MCAC first team and the AllSectional 2nd team in 2012... He was also a member of the Windy City club team that took 21st place at Junior Olympics in California in 2011.
PERSONAL: Dan is from River Forest, Illinois. He is the youngest son of Robert and Susan Kelly and the brother of Matt Kelly (University of Notre Dame Class of 2014), and Erin Kelly (Saint Louis University Class of 2011).
