CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College head men's soccer coach Ed Kelly has been named the 2011 NSCAA/Mondo South Atlantic Region Coach of the Year, according to an announcement made by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
This marks the fourth time that Kelly has earned Regional Coach of the Year honors. He was a two-time New England Coach of the Year in 2000 and 2002 and earned his first South Atlantic recognition in 2007.
Boston College finished the season at 14-6-1 and went 4-4-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Eagles had the fourth-best RPI in the country which garnered them the nation's fourth seed in the NCAA Tournament. After receiving a first-round bye, BC lost to Rutgers in a penalty kick shootout.
The Eagles also reached the final of the 2011 ACC Championship - their second appearance in the title game. It marked the fifth-consecutive time that BC reached the semifinals of the tournament - the only ACC team to accomplish that feat in the last five seasons.
