Aug. 28, 2014
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College men's soccer team opens the 2014 season on Friday afternoon when it takes on Iona at 4:15 p.m. at Boston University's Nickerson Field.
The Eagles bring a wealth of experience to the field as they sport nine seniors on their roster. As a team, BC returned 86 percent of its goal scoring, 100 percent of its assists and 95 percent of its point production from last season. The Eagles also welcome back both of the goalkeepers that played last year.
An influx of new talent will also provide an immediate impact. Freshman Mohammed Moro scored the game-winning goal in the 2-1 exhibition win at Holy Cross and then freshman Idrissa Bangura scored BC's first goal in a game which it came from behind to force a 2-2 draw at No. 8 Connecticut. Junior Phil Sandgren, who sat out last season due to transfer rules, was credited with the assist.
Iona went 10-6-3 last season and 7-2-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The Gaels were 3-5-2 away from home.
BC will also host Fordham on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
This will be Ampadu's second season serving as a captain. Last year, he scored a pair of goals while adding two assists for six points. Frano led the team last year with four goals and was second with 10 points. He also recorded two assists. Lewis led the team with 11 assists and 17 points while adding three goals in 2013. His assist total ranked fourth in the nation and he earned numerous accolades including ACC Freshman of the Year.
