Former Boston College men's soccer standout and current U.S. national team midfielder Alejandro Bedoya has agreed to a new contract with Rangers, three-time defending champion of the Scottish Premier League.
Pending an approval of his U.K. work permit, Bedoya will head to Glasgow in January to join Rangers. He will finish the Swedish season with his current team, Orebro.
Bedoya stormed onto the national scene earlier this summer when he was called in for the CONCACAF Gold Cup, earning starts in the quarterfinal, semifinal and final matches. He appeared in five contests during the tournament and now has 13 career caps.
Bedoya signed with Orebro in December 2008, concluding a two-year BC career in which he was twice a semifinalist for the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy. He also captured two All-America honors and led Boston College to the 2007 Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season and tournament titles while also earning ACC Offensive Player of the Year accolades.
He recorded 43 points - 14 goals and 15 assists - in 35 games at BC and totaled 77 points - 27 goals and 23 assists - in his combined four-year collegiate career. Bedoya spent his first two seasons at Fairleigh Dickinson.
