CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The 2012 Boston College men's soccer schedule is highlighted by eight Atlantic Coast Conference matches and nine contests against 2011 NCAA Tournament participants.
More than half of the 17 regular season games will be played against opponents that advanced to the postseason and the schedule also includes four conference champions. The Eagles will play nine home games at the Newton Campus Field.
Boston College opens the season at Quinnipiac (Aug. 24) before opening the home portion of its schedule against Boston University (Aug. 27).
The Eagles then travel to Fairfield (Sept. 3) to take on the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference champions prior to hosting perennial national contender Maryland (Sept. 7) in the conference opener for both sides. BC will face its first ACC road test at Virginia Tech (Sept. 14) the following week.
BC gets a break from the ACC slate and faces three non-conference opponents in the span of a week with matches at Connecticut (Sept. 18) and in Newton versus San Francisco (Sept. 22) and Rhode Island (Sept. 25). The Huskies reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament in 2011. The Eagles wrap up the three-game home stand with NC State (Sept. 28).
Following away matches at Harvard (Oct. 2) and Wake Forest (Oct. 6), BC is home for three more home contests against Dartmouth (Oct. 10), Clemson (Oct. 13) and Brown (Oct. 16). Dartmouth and Brown were Ivy League co-champions last season and the Bears advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Eagles close out the regular season with three ACC tests, beginning with a match at Duke (Oct. 19) and then at home against Virginia (Oct. 26). The regular season concludes with a meeting with national and conference champion North Carolina (Nov. 1) in Chapel Hill.
The ACC Men's Soccer Championship will begin November 5-6 with first round and quarterfinal action held at campus sites. The semifinals and final of the conference tournament will be held at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Germantown November 9-11.
