CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Former men's soccer standout Alejandro Bedoya has been named to the 23-player U.S. Men's National Team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup this summer in Brazil, announced by head coach Jurgen Klinsmann on May 22.

Bedoya played in 31 matches for FC Nantes this past season which plays in France's Ligue 1. He recorded five goals and two assists.

The Weston, Fla., product was an important piece for the National Team in the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup. He played in four matches and was instrumental in the semifinal and final matches, recording three assists on four American goals. He assisted on both of Landon Donovan's goals - including the game-winner - in the semifinal against Honduras. Bedoya also sparked the only goal in a 1-0 triumph over Panama in the final to spark the United States to its fifth title.

Bedoya was a star on the pitch for the Eagles during the 2007 and 2008 seasons. He was a two-time All-American and was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Year in 2007. He led the 2007 Eagle squad to the ACC regular season and tournament championships, and the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. Bedoya was also named to the All-ACC First Team in both seasons.

The U.S. MNT will play three matches in its Send-Off Series from May 27-June 7 beginning with a friendly against Azerbaijan on May 27. The USA will host Turkey on June 1 and then take on Nigeria on June 7. The MNT will open the 2014 FIFA World Cup on June 16 against Ghana.
