Bekker, Canada Earn Semifinal Berth In Olympic Qualifying

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Junior midfielder Kyle Bekker has led the Canadian U-23 national team to the semifinal stage of the 2012 CONCACAF Men's Olympic Qualifying tournament.
The Canadians and El Salvador both finished group play with five points, but El Salvador earned first place by goal differential. Bekker and the Canadians will play in the semifinals of the tournament on Saturday at 6 p.m. at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan. The two tournament finalists advance to compete in the Olympics this summer in London.
Bekker started and played the full 90 minutes in Canada's first two matches, a scoreless draw against El Salvador and a 2-0 win versus the United States. In the group play finale against Cuba, Bekker entered the match in the 46th minute. The contest ended in a 1-1 tie as the Canadians allowed a goal in extra time.
Bekker led the Eagles last season with eight goals, seven assists and 23 points. He finished sixth in the ACC in assists, eighth in goals and ninth in points. Bekker also had four multiple-point games which was the fourth most in the conference.
