CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Junior midfielder Kyle Bekker has been named to the Canadian U-23 national team competing in the 2012 CONCACAF Men's Olympic Qualifying tournament, announced Tuesday by coach Tony Fonseca.
Bekker, who hails from Oakville, Ontario, is a part of the 20-man squad that opens play on March 22 against El Salvador in Nashville, Tenn. The Canadians will also face the United States (March 24) and Cuba (March 26) in Nashville.
Bekker led the Eagles last season with eight goals, seven assists and 23 points. He finished sixth in the ACC in assists, eighth in goals and ninth in points. Bekker also had four multiple-point games which was the fourth most in the conference.
He has been a mainstay in the midfield the last three seasons, starting 62 games with 16 goals and 18 assists for the Eagles.
