St. John's junior midfielder Jimmy Buscemi netted two first-half goals to lead the second-ranked Red Storm to a 2-0 BIG EAST victory over Boston College (1-4-2) at Shea Field.
The victory extended St. John's unbeaten streak to 17 games. The last loss for the defending national champions came on October 27, 1996.
Buscemi opened the scoring at 29:30, and added his second goal at 40:11. The goals were the fourth and fifth of the season for St. John's top scorer.
St. John's (7-0-1) outshot the host Eagles, 11-4, and had several good opportunities to extend its lead in the second half.
Boston College freshman goalkeeper Chris Hamblin finished the match with four saves, while St. John's senior Dani Braga made one stop. Braga, who ranks first in the nation in goals against average, has allowed just one goal in 670 minutes this season. Braga has recorded seven shutouts in 1997.
