Georgetown Edges BC in Overtime Thriller
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senior forward Tom Greaser scored at the 94:05 mark of the first overtime, on a feed from midfielder Kevin Shaw to lift the Georgetown Hoyas to a 1-0 win at Harbin Field. Shaw settled the ball in the box and fed a wide open Greaser, who hammered home a 15-footer into the upper left hand corner of the net past a diving Chris Hamblin.
Boston College dominated play in the opening half, controlling the ball for much of the period and outshooting the Hoyas 9-4 heading into the intermission. In the second half, it was Georgetown who controlled the tempo and held a 7-2 edge in shots. Despite the lopsided play and scoring opportunities for both teams, the second half came to an end in a scoreless deadlock, thanks largely to the fine play of both goalkeepers.
Boston College's Hamblin was strong all game, turning away six shots and defending Georgetown's corners as well. Georgetown's Tyler Purtill was also solid in goal, making six stops including a key save with 1:00 remaining to preserve the 0-0 tie.
The Hoyas, winners of three straight, are undefeated in BIG EAST play.
The loss drops Boston's College's record to 1-3-0.
