Boston College Falls to Notre Dame, 3-1
NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Notre Dame scored three goals in a 12-minute span in the second half to gain a 3-1 home victory over Boston College in the final BIG EAST regular-season match for both teams.
With the loss, Boston College finishes the season with a 5-8-2 overall record, 4-6-1 in BIG EAST action. The Eagles tied for eighth place in the final conference standings, and earned the final berth in the league's championship tournament. Boston College will play at St. John's in the tournament's quarterfinal round. The match will be played on either Saturday, November 8 or Sunday, November 9.
Notre Dame finishes the season with a 9-8-2 mark, including a 5-5-1 BIG EAST record. Notre Dame will be the tournament's fifth seed and play at Seton Hall in the quarterfinal round.
After a scoreless first half, the two teams battled back and forth for 20 minutes in the second half before the Fighting Irish netted three goals -- at 65:20, 71:57 and 77:28 -- to take control. Junior captain Keith McDonald trimmed the ND margin to 3-1 at 79:42. Senior Asgeir Asgeirsson assisted on McDonald's goal.
Boston College freshman goalkeeper Chris Hamblin finished with four. Notre Dame goalie Greg Velho made two saves.
