Boston College Loses to Rutgers in Big East Action
- Rutgers (8-6-2) scored a pair of second half goals to defeat BIG EAST rival Boston College (4-7-2, 3-5-1), in front of 1,196 fans at Rutgers Soccer Stadium and Yurcak Field.
Both Rutgers'goals were scored by freshmen. The first came at 48:30 when Mark Simpson put home a Brian Piesner cross from just eight yards out. Piesner drove down to the right endline, turned the corner and fired a pass to Simpson who spun and fired a strike under BC goalkeeper Chris Hamblin. The goal was Simpson's third in as many games.
Rutgers' second goal was scored by forward Brett Lasby at 81:59. Lasby received a pass from junior back Jason Kenig in the BC goalbox. Once he received the pass, he turned and fired a shot over Hamblin into the far post. The goal was Lasby's second of the year.
Rutgers' goalkeeper Jon Conway made five saves in registering his fourth shutout of the season, and lowering his goals against average against the BIG EAST to a paltry .47. He now has five shutouts this season, four in the BIG EAST. Hamblin made four saves for Boston College, including two from point blank range on shots from Simon Forster and Billy Walsh.
