Box Score

After more than 98 minutes of scoreless play, freshman Satoshi Mitsuda notched the game-winner off a header from senior co-captain Pat Haggerty, as Boston College defeated Northeastern, 1-0, in a non-conference matchup at Parsons Field.

After a Northeastern foul, BC freshman Johann Helgason served the free kick into the box where it was controlled by Haggerty on the right side. Haggerty headed it to the left where it grazed off freshman Sherron Manswell and found Mitsuda, who knocked it past Northeastern goalkeeper Sergio Saccoccio for his second goal of the season. Saccoccio had three saves on the afternoon.

For the second consecutive year, BC and Northeastern could not settle the score in regulation. Both teams had opportunities in the first 90 minutes, but neither side was able to capitalize.

The No. 10 Eagles (11-3-1, 6-3-1) and the Huskies (2-9-4, 1-3-3 America East) both took five shots apiece in the opening half, but Northeastern created the better looks, getting two shots on goal and challenging BC sophomore goalkeeper Issey Maholo. Midfielder Daryl Brack took three shots for the Huskies.

With just more than 20 minutes remaining in the second half, both teams held their breath after a collision between Maholo and Northeastern's Jay Betley. As the two players scrambled after a loose ball in front of the goal, Betley's knee connected with the back of Maholo's head. The four-time BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week had to be removed from the game and was replaced by freshman Shane Boggis, who made one save in his collegiate debut. It was the first time this season Maholo has been removed from a game.

The Eagles will host North Carolina State on Saturday at 7 p.m. on the Newton Campus Soccer Field.
