Men's Soccer Loses To #21 Wake Forest, 2-0
Sep 7, 2013
NEWTON, Mass. - The Boston College men's soccer team lost to No. 21 Wake Forest, 2-0, on Saturday night at Newton Campus Field in the ACC opener for both schools.
Andy Lubahn and Jared Watts scored the two Demon Deacon goals. Luca Giminez assisted on both of them. Lubahn notched the first goal in the 28th minute and then Watts added to the lead in the 75th minute when the Eagles were playing with 10 men.
Boston College had a couple of early quality chances to score but could not find the net. Sophomore Atobra Ampadu found junior Cole DeNormandie with a nice through ball less than three minutes into the match. DeNormandie beat his man but Wake keeper, Andrew Harris, met him at the top of the box to make the save.
Freshman Isaac Normesinu created a chance in the 11th minute when he stole a ball at midfield. After a couple of touches, he fed sophomore Derrick Boateng on the right side. Boateng was open for the shot, but his attempt rolled wide of the far post.
Wake Forest's first opportunity came a minute later. Lubahn and Sean Okoli used quality passing to find Chris Duvall on the right side of the box. He had a point blank shot at junior Keady Segel, but he made the save to keep the Deacons off the board.
Wake struck first in the 28th minute when Giminez created some space for himself on the left side. He sent a low cross into a streaking Lubahn, who slid and put the ball in the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.
The second half saw less scoring opportunities for both sides until Boston College was forced to play with 10 men due to an ejection. Giminez set up for a free kick on the left side of the pitch in the 75th minute after a BC foul. He sent in a cross and Watts got a leg on it to pad the lead.
Harris made two saves for the Demon Deacons (2-1-0, 1-0-0 ACC), as did Segel for BC.
The Eagles (1-1-1, 0-1-0) are back in action on Monday when they travel to Dartmouth.
