Zach Samol is in his second season as Ed Kelly's assistant coach. A defensive specialist, last season he helped guide the team to the eighth-best team goals against average in the nation with a .81 goals per game mark. In 1999, the team had allowed 1.35 goals per game. He helped mold a backfield, complete with three new starters, into one of the best units in the nation: one that shutout nine opponents throughout the season.

A member of the Dartmouth College soccer team from 1994-1997, Samol earned All-Ivy accolades as a senior back. That same year, he was selected to the Stanford/Nike Classic all-tournament team. At the conclusion of his senior campaign, he was selected to play in the NEISL Senior All-Star game.

Over his career with the Big Green, Samol appeared in 59 games and scored two goals, while assisting on six others.

The native of Longmeadow, Mass. has played the last four seasons in the professional ranks, currently playing for the Boston Bulldogs of the D3-Pro League. He played for the Cape Cod Crusaders before joining that club. In 1999, he was a member of the Connecticut Wolves team that earned Soccer America's Team of the Week honors. He also played for the Western Mass Pioneers in 1998.
