Boston College freshman forward Steven Whitney has earned Hockey East Rookie of the Week honors, according to a league announcement made on Monday.

Whitney tallied the primary assist on three of BC's six goals scored in two road wins last week. The Reading, Mass., native assisted on sophomore Jimmy Hayes' decisive score in the Eagles' 3-2 win at Harvard on Wednesday, Dec. 9, and tallied two assists in the team's 3-1 win at Providence on Saturday, Dec. 12.

Whitney has tallied eight points - two goals and six assists - in 15 games this season.

Boston College, which improved to 10-3-2, has moved up several spots in both weekly polls also announced on Monday. The Eagles are ranked fifth according to USCHO.com and are ranked No. 6 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll.
