Two Boston College men's hockey players - sophomore forward Bill Arnold and freshman forward Johnny Gaudreau - have been named to the 29-man preliminary roster for the 2012 U.S. Junior National Team, according to an announcement made by USA Hockey on Monday evening.
The players will participate in a pre-tournament camp beginning Dec. 17 in Camrose, Alberta. The camp includes three exhibition games - against Russia (Dec. 20), Switzerland (Dec. 21) and Slovakia (Dec. 23).
The final 22-player roster that will compete at the 2012 World Junior Championships is expected to be announced on Dec. 22, prior to the team's final exhibition contests against Slovakia.
The 2012 U.S. National Junior Team will compete at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship to be held from Dec. 26, 2010 - Jan. 5, 2011, in Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta.
Arnold is a 6-foot, 210-pound forward from Needham, Mass. He has played in all 16 games this season and has tallied 18 points - nine goals and nine assists - and a +6 rating.
Gaudreau is a 5-foot-8, 150-pound forward from Carneys Point, N.J. He has played in all 16 games this season and has registered 13 points - seven goals and six assists.
Last winter, three BC players - defenseman Brian Dumoulin, forward Chris Kreider and defenseman Patrick Wey - captured the bronze medal as members of the U.S. National Junior Team at the 2011 IIHF World Junior Championships in Buffalo, N.Y. Kreider, a two-time participant, captured the gold medal as a member of the U.S. team that won the 2010 World Junior Championships in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
