Boston College junior goalie Cory Schneider has earned Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Schneider stopped all 34 shots in the team's 1-0 victory over Boston University on Saturday, Dec. 2. The shutout marked his third of the season and 12th of his career. Schneider is one shutout shy of tying former Eagle Scott Clemmensen, who registered a school-record 13 shutouts from 1997-01.
The Marblehead, Mass., resident has started all 13 games this season and is 8-4-1 with a 2.38 goals against average and a .921 save percentage. Schneider has played in 70 games through two-plus seasons at Boston College and owns a 45-18-7 record, a 2.11 goals against average and a .925 save percentage.
Last winter, Schneider earned All-America first-team honors. He holds the Boston College record for single-season shutouts (eight, 2005-06) and saves (1,088, 2005-06).
The weekly award marks Schneider's second of the season. Previously, he captured Hockey Player of the Week recognition on Oct. 30 after he registered 56 saves in two wins over second-ranked Wisconsin on Oct. 27 and 28.
