Gaudreau, Fitzgerald Garner Hockey East Awards

WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Boston College headlined Hockey East’s monthly honors for November as junior forward Johnny Gaudreau and first-year winger Ryan Fitzgerald were tabbed Hockey East Player of the Month and Hockey East Rookie of the Month, respectively, on Tuesday afternoon.
The pair of Eagles has been on a tear this past month. Throughout all of November, there was only one outing in which the combined duo did not account for a point.
Gaudreau is currently in the midst of a nine-game point streak after assisting against Holy Cross on Nov. 29. During the tear, the Carneys Point, N.J., native has racked up nine goals and eight assists, averaging 1.89 points per game throughout the month.
Fitzgerald pieced together a seven-game point streak starting on Nov. 1, but recently had it broke up at Maine on Nov. 23. The North Reading, Mass., native responded with a goal against Holy Cross on Nov. 29. In the month of November, Fitzgerald has accrued six goals and five assists, averaging 1.22 points per game.
As of Dec. 3, Gaudreau is second in all of college hockey in points per game. The left winger is averaging 1.79 points per game, with 12 goals and 13 assists in 14 outings this season. He is also third in the NCAA in goals per game (0.86 gpg), tied for ninth in assists (0.93 apg) and is tied for 10th in overall plus/minus (+12).
Fitzgerald is tied for seventh amongst all rookies, nationally, in points per game. The Boston Bruins prospect has notched seven goals and as many assists in 14 contests (1.00 ppg). He is ranked second amongst all freshmen in Hockey East scoring.
In BC’s nine games throughout November, Gaudreau was a +11 with a pair of game-winning goals along with his first-career short-handed tally. Fitzgerald totaled a +7 mark, scoring a game-winning goal and a power play tally along the way.
The last time Boston College earned a Player of the Month award was when Gaudreau won in around this time last season. Gaudreau was named Hockey East Player of the Month in November 2012.
Both Gaudreau and Fitzgerald have earned Hockey East merit this season. Fitzgerald picked up the Eagles’ first decoration on Nov. 4 (Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week) while Gaudreau won Warrior Player of the Week on Nov. 11.
Gaudreau was named Hockey East Player of the Week on three occasions last season (Oct. 22, Nov. 12 and March 11) and picked up four Rookie of the Week honors on Oct. 10, Oct. 31, Feb. 13 and March 11 during the 2011-12 campaign. Tuesday’s honor marks his fifth Player of the Month award in addition to winning Hockey East Player of the Year last season as a sophomore.
Boston College closes up its first half of the season with a home-and-home series against New Hampshire on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6-7. The Eagles host UNH at Kelley Rink at 7 p.m. on Friday before their only trip to the Whittemore Center on Saturday at 7 p.m.
