Boston College junior forward Nathan Gerbe has earned Hockey East Player of the Week honors and freshman goaltender John Muse collected the conference's Rookie of the Week distinction, according to a league announcement made on Monday.
Gerbe was involved in 7-of-10 Boston College goals in the team's two-game weekend sweep of Boston University. The Eagles beat BU, 6-2, in Kelley Rink on Friday and earned a 4-3 win at BU on Saturday.
Gerbe recorded seven points - four goals (three shorthanded) and three assists - in the league victories. The Oxford, Mich., resident registered three goals - two shorthanded - in recording his first collegiate hat trick in the team's 6-2 home win on Friday. Then, he was involved in all four goals scored at BU the next night. He netted BC's first goal in a shorthanded situation and assisted on all three remaining BC scores.
The 5-foot-5-inch left wing has totaled 16 points - nine goals and seven assists - in 13 games. He leads the team with a plus/minus rating of +4.
Muse, an East Falmouth, Mass., resident, made 74 saves in the two-game series victory, stopping 33 shots in the team's 6-2 win on Friday and registering a career-high 41 saves in a 4-3 victory at BU on Saturday. The freshman goaltender recorded a 2.50 goals against average and a .937 save percentage over the weekend.
This season, Muse has started all 14 games and has a 5-4-5 overall record. He has registered a 2.34 goals against average and a .919 save percentage.
Boston College (5-4-5) returns to action on Wednesday, December 12 at Harvard. The team will then travel to Minneapolis, Minn., for the Dodge Holiday Classic on Dec. 29-30. BC will face Air Force at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29 and will play either RIT or Minnesota on Sunday, Dec. 30.
