Hockey's Atkinson, Football's Pierre-Louis Honored By Fairfield Sports Commission
Oct. 23, 2010
Boston College student-athletes Cam Atkinson and Kevin Pierre-Louis have each earned Fairfield County Sports Commission 2010 Sports Persons of the Year awards at the annual Sports Night awards dinner on Monday, Oct. 18 at the Hyatt Regency in Greenwich, Conn.
Each year, the Commission names Sports Persons of the Year in each of the 15 Connecticut communities that the Commission serves. Atkinson, a forward on the men's hockey team, captured the honor for the town of Greenwich, while Pierre-Louis, a linebacker on the football team, shared the distinction with Silas Redd for the town of Norwalk.
Each recipient was deemed to have had the most positive impact in their sports community from August 2009 through August 2010.
Atkinson led all collegiate hockey players with 30 goals as a sophomore last winter, a 2009-10 season in which Boston College captured the Beanpot title, the Hockey East Tournament title and the NCAA Division I championship. The 5-foot-8, 175-pound forward finished the season with a team-high 53 points.
Pierre-Louis shared Norwalk Sports Person of the Year after collecting 2009-10 Connecticut Gatorade Player of the Year honors as a senior middle linebacker and fullback at the King and Low-Heywood Thomas School. The 6-foot-1, 221-pound Pierre-Louis recorded 159 tackles, including 101 solo stops, in nine games in 2009 and registered three interceptions (returning two for touchdowns), two sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
