Men's Hockey Chosen As 2010-11 Hockey East Preseason Favorite
Sept. 29, 2010
Boston College has been chosen as the preseason favorite to win the league regular-season title, according to the Hockey East Coaches' Poll released at the annual media day held at TD Banknorth Garden on Wednesday.
BC earned nine first-place votes and a total of 90 points. Maine was picked second with 80 points, just four points ahead of New Hampshire. Boston University and Northeastern rounded out the top five selections.
The announcement marks the 10th time in the last 13 seasons that the Eagles have been selected as the preseason favorite, or co-favorite, to win the conference crown.
BC enters the 2010-11 campaign having captured the last year's national title - its fourth national championship in program history. Last winter also marked program's third national championship under head coach Jerry York.
York and the Eagles return 17 lettermen from last year's 29-win club. The team's preseason begins on Sunday, Oct. 3 with an exhibition contest against the University of Toronto at 4 p.m.
Boston College will open the season on the road - at Northeastern on Oct. 9. It will then travel to Denver, last winter's Western College Hockey Association regular-season champion, for two games - on Oct. 15 & 16 - and visit South Bend, Ind., to face Notre Dame on Oct. 23 before it returns to Conte Forum/Kelley Rink on Oct. 29.
The Oct. 29 home contest against Merrimack will mark the team's home-opening game. BC will raise its national-championship banner that same night as a final salute to last year's title team.
