Sept. 24, 2013
The Boston College men's hockey team has been pegged the nation's No. 4 preseason ranking according to the USA Today / USA Hockey Magazine poll released on Monday afternoon.
The Eagles finished with 359 total points while league member, UMass Lowell, was voted the top spot with 484 points and 20-of-30 first-place votes. Miami (Ohio) is ranked second nationally with 444 points and nine first-place votes while Wisconsin weighs in at No. 3 with 364 points and a first-place vote. Minnesota rounds out the nation's top five with 347 points. BC will host Wisconsin on Friday, Oct. 18, and travel to Minneapolis for a pair with the Golden Gophers on Friday and Sunday, Oct. 25 and 27.
Boston College finished No. 8 and No. 9, respectively, in the USA Today / USA Hockey Magazine and USCHO.com final polls in 2013.
Head coach Jerry York and the Eagles return 18 letterwinners from last season, including 67 percent of their second-ranked offense in the country. BC also ushers in one of its biggest rookie classes in recent history. Ten new Eagles will don the maroon and gold in Boston College's quest for its sixth national championship and fourth in the last seven seasons.
"As always, we have to replace some key players," York said. "That's always our charge. I think this freshmen class is a deep group. They will all have a chance to make an immediate impact on our program."
BC's preseason begins with a Sunday afternoon exhibition against St. Francis Xavier on Sunday, Oct. 6, at Conte Forum. Puck drop is slated for 1 p.m.
Boston College's 92nd hockey season will open in Ann Arbor, Mich., when the Eagles invade Yost Ice Arena to battle Big Ten opponent Michigan on Thursday, Oct. 10. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be televised on Comcast. The home opener will come against Rensselaer on Sunday, Oct. 13, at 3 p.m.
