Sept. 24, 2012
Boston College men's hockey, the 2012 NCAA champion, has earned a share of the nation's No. 1 preseason ranking with Minnesota according to the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll released on Monday.
The Eagles finished with 476 points and 20 (of 34) first-place votes while the Gophers finished with 476 points and 12 first-place votes to finish tied atop the poll. The preseason favorites are scheduled to face off against one another on Sunday, Dec. 30 at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis, Minn.
Michigan, which totaled 408 points and two first-place votes, earned the No. 3 spot, while North Dakota and Union College rounded out the top five in the preseason poll.
BC enters the 2012-13 campaign having captured last year's national title - its fifth national championship in program history. Last winter also marked the program's third national title in five years and its fourth under head coach Jerry York.
York and the Eagles return 15 lettermen from last year's 33-win club. The team's preseason begins on Saturday, Oct. 6 with an exhibition contest against New Brunswick at 7 p.m.
Boston College will open the season on the road - at Northeastern on Saturday, Oct. 13. It will then travel to Massachusetts on Friday, Oct. 19 before hosting the Huskies on Oct. 20.
The Oct. 20 home contest against Northeastern will mark the team's home-opening game. BC will raise its national-championship banner that same night as a final salute to last year's title team.
