Hockey Earns No. 1 Preseason National Ranking
Sept. 22, 2008
Boston College men's hockey, the 2008 NCAA champion, has earned the nation's No. 1 preseason ranking according to the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll released on Monday.
The Eagles collected 490 points and 27 (of 34) first-place votes to finish atop the poll.
Michigan, which totaled 432 points and four first-place votes, earned the No. 2 spot, while Notre Dame, North Dakota and Colorado College rounded out the top five in the preseason poll.
BC enters the 2008-09 campaign having captured the last year's national title - its third national championship in program history. Last winter also marked the eighth time in the last 11 years the Eagles advanced to the NCAA Tournament's Frozen Four. BC returns 15 lettermen from last year's 25-win club.
The team's season gets underway with a home game against Wisconsin on Friday, Oct. 10. At that time, Boston College will raise its 2008 national-championship banner as a final salute to last year's title team.
