Three Freshmen Selected In 2013 NHL Entry Draft

Three incoming Boston College hockey freshmen - D Ian McCoshen, D Steve Santini and F Ryan Fitzgerald - were selected in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
McCoshen, a 6-foot-2, 207-pound defenseman, was selected by the Florida Panthers in the second round (31st overall). He played each of the last three seasons with the Waterloo Black Hawks of the United States Hockey League. A native of Hudson, Wis., McCoshen recorded 44 points - 11 goals and 33 assists - in 53 games in 2012-13.
Santini, also a 6-foot-2, 207-pound defensemen, was selected by the New Jersey Devils in the second round (42nd overall). He played in 66 games as a member of the U.S. National Under-18 team in 2012-13. A native of Mahopac, N.Y., Santini was a member of the U.S. U-18 team that captured a silver medal at the 2013 IIHF World Championship in Sochi, Russia.
McCoshen and Santini are among 40 players invited to participate in the 2013 U.S. National Junior Evaluation Camp from Aug. 3-10 in Lake Placid, N.Y.
Fitzgerald, a 5-foot-10, 175-pound forward, was selected by the Boston Bruins in the fourth round (120th overall). He played 26 games for the Valley Warriors of the Eastern Junior Hockey League in 2012-13. A native of North Reading, Mass., Fitzgerald recorded 30 points - 14 goals and 16 assists.
Each will enroll at Boston College in September 2013 and be eligible to play in the 2013-14 season.
Coupled with the selection of two additional incoming freshmen - F Chris Calnan and F Adam Gilmour - in last June's NHL draft, Boston College will enter the 2013-14 campaign with 11 players on its roster selected in NHL drafts.
Calnan, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound forward, was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the third round (79th overall) in 2012. A native of Norwell, Mass., he played in 32 games for the South Shore Kings (EJHL) in 2012-13 and recorded 49 points - 27 goals and 22 assists.
Gilmour, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound forward, was chosen by the Minnesota Wild in the fourth round (98th overall) last June. A native of Hanover, Mass., he played the 2012-13 season with the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the United States Hockey League. Gilmour led the team in scoring with 47 points - 19 goals and 28 assists - in 64 games.
