Four Freshman Hockey Players Selected On Day Two Of 2009 NHL Entry Draft

Four additional incoming Boston College hockey freshmen - forward Kenny Ryan, defenseman Brian Dumoulin, defenseman Philip Samuelsson and defenseman Patrick Wey - were selected in rounds 2-7 (day two) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft on Saturday, June 27 at Montreal's Bell Centre.

 

Coupled with the selection of forward Chris Kreider, a first-round pick (19th overall) of the NY Rangers on Friday, five Boston College freshmen-to-be were drafted.  Each will enroll at Boston College in September 2009 and be eligible to play in the 2009-10 season.

 

Ryan (Toronto), Dumoulin (Carolina) and Samuelsson (Pittsburgh) were each second-round picks.  Wey was a fourth-round selection of Washington.

 

Ryan is a 6-foot, 204-pound forward from Franklin Village, Mich.  As a member of the U.S. National U-18 Team Development Program in 2008-09, he registered 36 points - 20 goals and 16 assists - in 49 games.  He was selected 50th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

 

Dumoulin is a 6-foot 3-inch, 197-pound defenseman from Biddeford, Maine.  He earned EJHL Defensive Player of the Year honors as a member of the N.H. Junior Monarchs in 2008-09, totaling 30 points - seven goals and 23 assists.  He was selected 51st overall by the Carolina Hurricanes.

 

Samuelsson is a 6-foot 3-inch, 198-pound defenseman from Scottsdale, Ariz.  As a member of the Chicago Steel of the USHL last winter, he tallied 22 assists in 54 games.   Samuelsson was selected 61st overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins.


 

 

 

Wey is a 6-foot 3-inch, 203-pound defenseman from Pittsburgh, Pa.  He has played each of the last two seasons with the Waterloo Black Hawks of the USHL, registering 34 points - seven goals and 27 assists - in 58 games in 2008-09.  Wey was selected 115th overall by the Washington Capitals.

 

Boston College will enter the 2009-10 campaign with 11 players on its roster who have been selected in the NHL Draft.
