April 16, 2014

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Mike Ayers, following his first season as assistant coach at Boston College, has been named an assistant coach of the 2015 U.S. National Junior Team, according to an announcement made by USA Hockey.

Mark Osiecki (former head coach of Ohio State) will serve as head coach while Ayers, Don Granato (U.S. National Team Development Program) and Kevin Patrick (Vermont) will serve as the assistants.

The U.S. National Junior Team will compete in the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship from Dec. 26, 2014 to Jan. 5, 2015 in Montreal and Toronto, Canada. The U.S. is seeking its fourth medal in six years, having won gold in 2010 and 2013, and the bronze medal in 2011.

Team USA will play its preliminary-round games in Montreal. Quarterfinals will be split between Montreal and Toronto. The semifinals, medal games and relegation games will be played in Toronto.

This marks the second-consecutive year a member of the Boston College coaching staff has been selected to represent the United States as a member of the team's coaching staff. This past year, BC associate head coach Greg Brown was an assistant coach for the 2014 U.S. National Junior Team.

Ayers, an All-American goaltender at the University of New Hampshire, helped led the Eagles to their 24th Frozen Four in program history this season.
